For those of you who are considering swapping the engine in your Fox-body Mustang, Sean Hyland Motorsport has a complete range of choices and options for you that will save you time and money, because we have figured out all of the hard stuff for you and all you have to do is order the parts, follow the instructions and benefit from our experience.  Of course the featured performer in this show is the Ford 5.0 L V8 Coyote engine. Ford Racing’s all-aluminum 5.0L Mustang crate engine is a modern 5.0L 32-valve DOHC V-8 that uses advanced features like Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) to deliver 420 horsepower @ 6500 rpm and 390 ft.-lb.+ of torque @ 4250 rpm (with premium fuel). The lightweight aluminum cylinder block features cross-bolted main bearing caps and thick main bearing bulkheads for bottom-end strength. Optimized oil drainback and windage control improve high-rpm performance.  We put this engine and all the necessary pieces into a value package that we sell for $10,795.

  1. Throttle pedal adapter (Part #SHM-1715).  This piece mounts the Ford electronic throttle pedal at the correct angle to the Fox-body firewall.  $892015-04-06 15.15.17

Transmission Solutions for the Fox-body/Coyote

There are a number of ways to connect your new Coyote engine to the transmission.  We have outlined three options below.

Using the Stock T5 transmission

If this is your preferred option you will need:

  1. A Quick Time bellhousing, (#RM-6080).     $599

This bellhousing adapts the stock T5 Fox-body transmission to the Coyote engine and uses  transmission and retains the original clutch cable.

  1. An 11” clutch with 10-spline disc.  This clutch connects the T5 transmission to the Coyote engine.  Ram 11” clutch assembly (part #98952HD).   $399

SHM TKO 600 Transmission Kit (SHM-TPK-5)

The SHM TKO 600 transmission kit  uses the Tremec TKO 600 5 speed transmission, rated at 600 ft/lbs torque capacity, 11 inch HD organic clutch, clutch cover, clutch bolt kit, aluminum bellhousing, bolt kit, block separator plate, and driveshaft yoke.  Tremec TKO transmissions offer many unique features and upgrades and the shift rail mechanism can be adjusted for shifter location both fore-aft and left-right to ensure a perfect fit. Both mechanical and electronic speedometer pickups are included, along with a billet aluminum short shifter. Whether you are building your Fox-body car for road race, drag race, or street rod, you can choose from a wide ratio or close ratio transmission – both the same price  $3170; the SHM-TPK-5 kit comes with a 1-year warranty.

SHM T-56 Transmission Kit (SHM-TPK-6)

The  SHM T-56 transmission kit uses the Tremec Magnum 6 speed transmission, rated at 700 ft/lbs torque capacity, 11 inch HD organic clutch, clutch cover, clutch cover bolt kit, aluminum bellhousing, bolt kit, block separator plate, and driveshaft yoke.  The cost for this kit is $3,995 and comes with a 1-year warranty.

Automatic Transmission Kit (SHM-TPK-4R70W)

For those who prefer an automatic transmission, you can choose our 4R70W 4-speed automatic, electronic overdrive transmission.  The transmission kit includes a torque converter, flexplate, transmission cooler, attaching bolts and stand-alone computer with wiring harness.  The programmable transmission computer allows easy fine tuning of the shifting for any application. No laptop or software is required – just turn the knobs on the controller to set the shift RPM, firmness and other parameters.   The cost for the kit is $3,995 and includes a block separator plate, driveshaft yoke, and transmission mount.  The package  has a 2-year warranty.
